Bringing agency and focus to one's practice seems so fragile in the face of experiencing the world which of course paradoxically makes it all happen.
I like depositing my old mags and journals in the tiny free homegrown community library boxes that have sprouted up in neighborhoods near you. Nestled in between the latest bestseller and trash classic, they are an elevating presence. And every now and then I think someone walks by and actually takes one of my donations.
I also have piles - lit mags I'm trying out, books written by or recommended by friends, and stacks of The New Yorker. I call the piles "aspirational reading" and distribute the magazines around the house wherever I might be sitting for a while. Somehow they reaffirm me...
