That is some great advice, thank you,although I am a bit puzzled about what Rushdie meant when he says-avoid mention of tropical fruits or birds. Did he really mean this or was he alluding to generic "desi" references?Could you explain?

He was speaking against clichés, the easy idea of mangoes standing in for the whole, or even the essence, of India, etc.
